I saw Constantine for the first time when it came out on DVD last Tuesday. I am not normally into demonic shows like The Exorcist or The Order so you can use that to gauge my review.
I would give the movie 4 of 5 stars. I felt entertained the whole way through and didn't ever ask myself when it would end. I thought the set-up was good at the beginning by establishing characters but not giving too much away. The effects were well done and the acting was above average. If these types of movies don't bother you then I would recommend that you see it at least one time.
I feel obligated to point out some correct and incorrect things about the move though. I wouldn't do this for every movie because directors are allowed their interpretation. I do it for this one because some people may not know and take it for truth.
Incorrect facts:
- Jesus was not killed by the roman spear as declared by the movie. Jesus gave up his spirit on the cross after only 6 hours (see Mark 15). This is not normal because it usually takes someone a few days before they smother. (Even the governor was surprised to learned He died so quickly, Mark 15:44) The spear was used to make sure he was dead before He was removed from the cross. The Romans didn't put someone on the cross just to poke them with a spear. You were meant to feel the most pain by dying on your own.
- God and Satan are not playing a game for souls. God desires all men to be saved and come the knowledge of truth, 1 Timothy 2:3,4. The devil desires to devour all men, 1 Peter 5:8, as well. Not all good people go to Heaven, only those who have asked for forgiveness and who place their faith in Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Correct facts:
- Angels exists
- Demons exist
- Hell is a real place.
- The devil is real and he wants you there.
And I will leave you with this, God has won the victory so join the winning team.
